I bought this for my daughter who wanted to learn how to sew. It's ok for this purpose, but don't count on it for great sewing. The speed is very slow, the pedal is cheap plastic and can break easily. The size is easy to handle for quick-fix sewing. The bobbin case is flimsy and comes dislodged easily.

Brother LS-2220 22-Stitch Function Free-Arm Sewing Machine Review

I bought this machine to replace my 35-year old Singer Stylist and was surprised to learn that it was not as good! Of course being newer everything was a little smoother, but it has two problems that made it unacceptable to me. The first is that it requires constant - daily or weekly - oiling (my Singer only needed annual oiling) in 5 different places, some of which were not clearly indicated in the manual (brief and annoying to follow) and all of which were difficult to access. Also, pictures in the manual did not match the machine I received. The second big problem is that the it does not have a drop-in bobbin, something I thought surely would have become standard in the last 35 years! My old Singer had a drop-in bobbin and it is a feature I am not willing to give up.

Singer DF150_G Adjustable Dress Form, Gray, Small Review

This dress form is very convenient. The multiple dials give you a lot of control in getting the right measurements, and the fabric-covered surface lets you pin materials to the form.

However, there is one major drawback. You can't use the form to create tight-fitting tops or dresses, because the chest shape is not true to life! In real life, breast width transitions gradually from top to bottom, but at the bottom it cuts sharply in where the breast ends and the rib cage begins (under the cup). On this dress form though, the breasts thin out gradually on the underside as well, making the ribcage in that area disproportionately wide. With the waist and breast measurements set exactly to my own, it is *impossible* to even put my bra on the form!

It would be great for loose shirts and dresses, but keep in mind that the chest area is messed up.

Singer 7466 Electronic Sewing Machine Review

Love this!Sews beautifully, lots of great stitches, very easy to switch out the pressure foot.Only drawback I've found was the bobbin cover is easy to misplace.It pops off completely to put on a new bobbin.But I've just made of habit of putting it in the same spot when changing bobbins so I won't lose it.I really like the little cubby hole storage box on the front to store the extra feet.Very nice machine, and I'm very happy with it.

This is one of a series of books for home sewing enthusists put out by the Singer Sewing machine company in the 1980's. I picked up a dozen of them at a library sale and I'm always looking for more. They were part of a subscription series. They are well illustrated with clean clear pictures and straightforward instructions. Whether one is an experienced sewer or an amateur just getting started, each one of these books is priceless. They include buttonholes, zippers, stitching, collars, how to read a pattern, how to set up a home sewing area, which thread to buy- just about everything anyone would need to become a competent home sewer. If you see one anywhere, buy it. Unfortunately, this particular one- "Sewing for Children", I already own. Always looking for more.

Janome Magnolia 7306 Sewing Machine - Quilting Machine Review

I bought this machine.I explained to the salesman that I needed something with some power that could sew thru many thick layers.This is NOT that machine!It jammed all the time and eventually it broke a needle and shot a small part into my eye!OMG!It scared me to death.It would be fine for someone who is just learning and isn't asking a lot of a sewing machine other than basic straight stitching for making simple clothes.Take caution if you are trying to do much more.

48 Large Spools Embroidery Machine Thread Review

I was skeptical about this set.The title says "Large" spools, and as I've learned in the past, Large usually means tiny little spools that are good for barely one project.Not these!

These threads are beautiful, they sew great (no fraying or breaking!!), and the colors are fantastic!I would recommend them to anybody!They really are large spools... not the huge overlock spools, but nice, thick, healthy amounts of thread.Buy them!

Kenmore Mini Ultra 3/4 Size Sewing Machine with 6 Stitches Plus Buttonhole Review

I received this machine as a gift 7 years ago, and have since sewed everything from cardboard, denim, upholstery fabrics, quilts, paper, etc on it, and it is still chugging along! It's wonderful because it's fairly lightweight and medium sized, so it's easy to transport. It's also very easy to learn on, I taught myself how to use it and had sewed very little previous to using this machine. It has three straight stitches and seven variations of zig-zag stitches, as well as settings for making a buttonhole; new machines have way more settings for different stitches, but I've learned to do a lot of creative things just with this amount. If you are a really serious sewer you may be interested in a fancier machine with more options, but this one is wonderful if you are okay with limited stitch options. Replacements for needles and the light bulb have been easy and inexpensive. I've recently been learning about how to reset the tension, and this has been the first time it's given me any issues. Read the whole manual before you begin using it, it will make you a better sewer and teach you how to take care of your machine so it lasts longer. I would definitely recommend this machine.

Singer 34-Stitch Esteem Sewing Machine - White (1732) Review

I would say this is an okay machine for beginners. I say this because some seem to have the impression that the machine is supposed to do everything for you. First read the manual thoroughly so you can understand how the machine works. Second, in the beginning, my stitches kept getting tangled, and I realized all I needed to do was fix the tension. You just have to play around with the machine to understand how it works. Second, the "S" button is not in the stitch selector dial but stitch length. I've made 4 different projects with this machine so far and I love it. Works well and I'm sure I'll have this one for a while.

Singer Simple 16-stitch Sewing Machine, 3116 Review

The reason I gave the Simple Singer 3116 a one star was because there is no zero star.I bought a brand new one.Do not waste your time or your hard earned money. I would be embarassed to put my name on anything that hookie.Chinese made. The bobbin jammed over and over and over the first day I started to use it. Singer said, " it might be off timing ". It's brand new for crying out loud. The instruction video was superb. But that's where it ended. The product is really frustrating.
Let me tell you about the bobbin.It sits in a half moon shaped depression that you slide a " hook " into and then while holding that easily disgorged piece with one hand you have to slide the race over all that and then clip " dog ears " over each side to hold it in place. Then you take the bobbin and slide it in to the center post. I can't think of anything more prone to failure than that design except perhaps just tossing those parts in there without even dog earring them.
From the Singer Customer Svc CTR apparently this is not new to them. They said the electronic units do not have " this problem ".
Hope this helps with your decision making. I wish I had seen this prior to buying mine.

The Singer Futura machine is everything it claims to be.It is computer operated and totally intuitive but you must be minimally computer savvy. You can buy a guaranteed used computer for very little money. The multiple stitch sewing functions and surger are, however, independent of the computer.I am an 82 year old male and decided to do this as a hobby and discovered that sewing skills are not required for the embroidery functionYou will find that all malfunctions are operator errors so follow the instructions closely they are mostly pictorial with little text. The potentials of this Singer are such that if you don't get the added software package (sometimes offered with the same machine price) you are missing out on the most creative part and you will be confined to the 3600 provided designs.Some of you may find this sufficient especially since many more designs are promised through the internet.It is however the Autopunch software that gives you this great freedom. You can change any image into embroidery designs and therein is the power of this Singer.Being also a photographer I use Adobe Photoshop software to manipulate or alter the image which is what you may have to do to get Autopunch to make any sense of it; other software may apply. For fabric stabilizers try to use some closed weave stiff fabric. You can also try spray-on starch. To put designs on terry cloth you need to use the water soluble stabilizer on top otherwise the loops of the fabric become entangled in your design making it look untidy. Save the torn away stabilizer and dissolve it in water and use it also as paint-on stabilizer.Start with single color designs until you get proficient at threading the machine which is what you will be doing a lot. I was fully operational in one week's time. Tailors or seamstresses not familiar with computers should team up with a computer savvy friend or family member (most of them are) and together you will share the great joy of automated embroidery.

The Juki is a solid little industrial machine with all metal parts. It is easy to use and very fast and strong. I got this one to use on a quilting frame, and kept my beloved 1980s Pfaff for piecing, but if you need a nice little mid-arm, the Juki is an excellent choice.

Juki MO-654DE Pearl Series Serger with Workbook and Instructional DVD Review

This is my fifth serger and, so far, my favorite.For the last five years I have mostly sewn on a Baby lock Imagine, and then a Baby Lock Evolve.These are excellent, very easy to use sergers, but very expensive.In addition, I found the Evolve, the one I used the most, had trouble going over thick seams.When the Evolve was getting serviced earlier this year I bought a vintage Juki (MO-104) and loved it but decided I needed a more modern one with differential feed and a rolled hem.

This Juki has it all.It is very stable--never moves around when you're serging--has a wonderful knife set-up that cuts through anything smoothly, and has a beautiful rolled hem, either two or three thread.It doesn't have the jet air threading of the Baby Locks, but threads easily.Everything is color-coded.The tensions are also very easy to set.I haven't had any problem with them at all.

I would advise you also to order a good, basic serger book because the instruction book with this Juki doesn't explain how to make the variety of stitches that are possible with it.With most of them you just have to tweak the tensions or stitch length or width, all easy to do on this machine.The electronic, high end machines (that go for a thousand dollars or more) will either make these adjustments automatically, or tell you how to do them on the screen, but I find a good serger book works just as well, and is much, much cheaper.

Do be aware that this machine does not have a coverstitch, or coverhem, as it is sometimes called.It's the two or three thread stitch used to hem knits.To get this stitch you need to buy an expensive, high-end combo serger, or a separate coverstitch machine.I like having a regular serger, this one in particular, and a separate coverstitch machine, like the Janome CP 1000.

This is shipped from Ken's Sewing Center, a store with an excellent reputation in the sewing community.Mine arrived quickly in perfect shape, but had there been a problem I know Ken's would have taken care of it.

Really, this serger is an amazing deal.Juki is an excellent brand;I understand they make the Bernina sergers as well.

Update:When I reviewed this serger it was $399.00 and was shipped by Ken's Sewing Center.I see now that the price and vendor have been changed.It is still an excellent serger but not quite as good a deal now.

Carry and Cover Sewing Case - Blue/ Brown Review

I bought this case at a Target store. It was marked down because it was very dirty, but it wiped clean with water andwith no difficulty. The only thing I would suggest is to measure your machine before buying. It said "Singer" on the cardboard wrapping. I have a Singer, but it wouldn't fit until I removed my upper thread holders. I love it because it is easy to pick up and it holds my presser foot and accessories.

Juki TL98Q High Speed Sewing and Quilting Machine Review

I really love this machine. I got it about three weeks ago and I was so pleasantly surprised by it's performance. Yes, it only does a straight stitch but it does a perfect, powerful, clean straight stitch unlike any machine I have used--- aside from an industrial Juki, which is just not practical in my apartment. I thought my old Singer was great (and it is, i must say) but this machine has not jammed once, it performs perfectly and I could not be happier with it!! I highly recommend this to anyone who sews a lot or who works in the fashion industry but just doesn't have room for an industrial at home!!!

Reliable 4-Inch Round Knife Cloth Cutting Machine Review

Product works fairly well.I would recommend this product only when you are trying to cut multiple layers of fabric or similar textiles at one time.The less you try to cut the more bunching there is.Controlling the cloth for a straight cloth when there are only a few layers causes bunching and the cut is not straight the way you would like.I purchased this to help my wife so she would have less pain when cutting fabric for online sale due to severe carpal tunnel and hand pain.For the price she hasn't been able to use it much.It rolls over the surface and it does do the cutting but there is nothing to control the fabric being cut while you control the cutting machine.I think it should be emphasized more that this is a product more for cutting thick cloth projects.For thinner projects you can more easily control the fabric with a handheld rotary cutter and get a more accurate cut.

Brother LS1520 21-Stitch Function Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Automatic 4-Step Buttonholer Review

Tension was perfect right out of the box. It is plastic cased, so I am treating it gingerly compared to the hefty metal machine on which I learned to sew. Very easy to thread and wind bobbins. The manual has very clear illustrations. However, it requires some flipping through as each series of steps is printed in several languages. Very enjoyable, and I look forward to using it. I hope with care it lasts a good long time.

Singer CE-100 Futura Sewing and Embroidery Machine Review

What makes this product so attractive is that by connecting it to a computer you can get an endless amount of embroidery designs. It is also a full feature sewing machine.
I bought this item for my wife's birthday. It does everything that is advertised. The sewing functions are straight forward, and everything worked as it should.
The embroidery isn't as staight forward. The instructions are very poor, and limited. Although I have to admit, that I figured most of it out fairly quickly. The embroidery is slow, and of course you have to change thread for every color change in your pattern. The designs came out looking good. I also downloaded some free designs from other sites, and they worked just as well.
My problem with this machine is two fold. The one we bought broke after only a few hours of use. It was a minor problem. The bobbin holder had a crack where the tension screw goes in. At first everything was fine, but within a few hours the thread started catching in the crack until it was unusable. I'm sure that this won't be a problem for most customers.
The second problem is much more severe in my opinion. No one has parts for the machine, and it's near impossible to even get a parts list. One item that doesn't come with the machine that my wife wanted was a zipper foot. The part number for that item was listed in the book, but when I went to find it, absolutely no one had it. I even wrote Singer's part's department, and they wrote back telling me to call.
It's a neat machine. As long as you get one that works, and aren't concerned about parts availability, I don't think you can find a better ebroidery machine for less money.

Singer DF151 Adjustable Dress Form, Red, Medium Review

I have used my dress form for 4 pieces of clothing now. It works really well. It really takes the guess work out of sewing if you aren't into using patterns all the time (it works really well for pattern use too)!

My only complaint is that although the size is adjustable, the shape is not. Not all women are hourglasses or curvy in all the same areas and I think that this would better accommodate all shapes if the actual waistline was adjustable.

Overall, I am really glad I bought this, as I am an avid clothing maker.
